I first connected with Nikki from Reach Out Hertfordshire when I applied to become a volunteer in my spare time whilst in the UK. In this episode, which I recorded as part of Podcastathon’s 2025 movement, A Cause You Care About, Nikki and I discussed Reach Out specifically, as well as the broader value of volunteering and companionship. This conversation helped me realise the huge impact we can have simply by contributing a little of our resources and time, and how much we can receive in return through the act of giving to another.
I invite you to listen to this conversation and let us know in the comments what it sparked in you. Did it encourage you to explore volunteering for yourself? Are you already volunteering, if so, did you resonate with what Nikki and I were sharing in this conversation?
Join me in a heartfelt conversation with Nikki Lane from Reach Out Hertfordshire as we discuss:
✅ How Reach Out is bridging the gap between hospital and home
✅ The vital role of volunteers in cultivating confidence, connection and companionship
✅ Real stories of impact and the power of human connection
✅ How you can get involved and make a difference
About Reach Out Hertfordshire:
Reach Out Hertfordshire is a home from hospital volunteering project. Our volunteers support older people who have recently been discharged from hospital, or are medically vulnerable, and are at risk of admission to hospital. We have been operating in Herts for over 4 years and work with local hospitals, Herts Help, Social workers, GP social prescribers and other charities to support people and help them during their recovery. Your commitment is an hour a week to visit a client, this could entail a cup of tea and chat/ collecting light shopping and prescriptions / going for short walks/ building confidence and independence/ and much more.
If you're looking for a meaningful way to give back, this episode is for you.
with love,
Emma
