Sunday morning poem: the purpose of love
The Friday just gone, I had the honour of marrying two of my amazing friends in Ibiza. They asked me to perform the ceremony with a poem. It was so heart opening, I decided to share it with you too.
Love is like a circle No beginning and no end Like seasons that flow into one another Moments of new life as the sun begins to rise And moments of fall Into deaths Only to grow once again A phoenix that rises from its ashes Shrouded in flames Where two unite as one Seeing in each others eyes That they are the same But honouring their unique ways Who am I to say To speak on The love that unites here today I can only pray That my words capture the essence of love But it’s practice is for the two That have chose to stay true to their hearts The start like a ship on the ocean Setting sail from the harbour without a map But if you choose not to look back or forward Only see the person standing in front of you You’ll witness what is true What is real Because the purpose of love is to see the other as always enough Not expect them to fit the idea of who they should be Told by the mind But to find the beauty in every imperfection Not to question how they see the world But to delve so deep into their eyes That each day offers a surprise A chance to see one another in a new light For love is not remembering who you saw yesterday The one you hope to see tomorrow But to hold, through every moment of sorrow Hardship Challenge Can you imagine a love that lives as this? Where the silence isn’t always bro ken by words Where it’s purpose is to serve one another’s growth To float in the bliss of the granting of a wish Promise to never miss a moment of all the love that is here for you both The walking on a new road Enjoy every note that this song will bring Sing each others praises Watch as opening your heart amazes Journeying through many phases to different places So let’s finish this poem with a wish That this loves beauty, is something you both can never miss.
with love,
Emma
On a side note, speaking to you in February 2024, I’ve just finished writing my second book, Uncomfortably, Beautifully Human. A collection of 222 poems over two and a half years. The words are the residue of the emotions, thoughts, experiences and observations of my human experience. These poems, although written by my hand and through the lens of my experiences, are not my poems or words, but mirrors, moments in time for whatever you may need to receive, as you read.
I’m currently looking for the right publisher, or agent who connects deeply with my work and would like to partner with me for the publishing journey of this book. If you feel a resonance and have any idea of the person/company that might be ‘the one’, or you have any tips for the publishing journey, please reach out to me by email emma@emmaevelyncampbell.com. Your support is deeply appreciated.
