Poem: I don't trust love
The words of this poem came to me after a conversation with my brother.

Dear Love, I don’t trust you All the pain you’ve put me through Yet, how much in all of that I grew When I ask, “show me how to love unconditionally” You show me all that is not love How I’ve wandered around not feeling enough You taught me to put myself in another's shoes See through another’s eyes And it has me asking why Why did I cause pain to who I loved the most? My little self How I’ve dwelt in blame Going against the grain I’ve tied many sins that aren’t mine to my name I’ve been afraid to be love Because when you are love You’ll see all that is not that You’ll see all that is lack You’ll see all that is sep ara tion It’s your preparation An invitation saying Can you still choose love? Can you stand in who you are as a gust of wind tries to blow you away? Is it better to be love than to be right? What does it mean to be love when it feels so out of sight? Many questions in my mind
It’s funny that I don’t trust love And it’s funny how in that declaration Love came to me And whispered... "Take the pressure of your shoulders Love is not moving the boulders of others But showing them that, no matter what, they still belong That even when we, as human beings may do wrong We choose to remember that it is together that we are strong Different melodies, yet the same song" Isn’t this love? Maybe this, I am safe to begin to trust.
